Ingredients

½ cup cracked wheat

2 tsp oil

¼ tsp cumin seeds

1 green cayenne pepper (diced) (optional)

1½ cup water

1 tomato (diced)

½ tsp red cayenne pepper powder

1 tsp cilantro / coriander powder

½ tsp salt

Method

Heat the oil in a cooking pot. Add the cumin seeds and heat until this sizzles. Stir the green cayenne pepper. Now add the cracked wheat and water. Finally, add tomatoes, red cayenne pepper powder, cilantro / coriander powder and salt to taste. Close the lid of the pot and cook for ~15-20 minutes or until the cracked wheat is tender and all the water has been soaked. Cracked wheat snack is ready to be served hot.

Suggested Food Pairing: Use it as a healthy snack with your choice of beverage.

Tips: You can add diced carrots, peas and other vegetables to the recipe after stirring the green cayenne pepper. Add all the spices with salt to taste to this and sauté for ~4-5 minutes before you add the wheat and water to make vegetable cracked wheat snack or cracked wheat pulav / pilaf.
